As you are aware, we have had major internal construction works taking place over the summer holidays which led to the school being closed to all staff from a health and safety perspective for the duration of this period.
On Thursday, 28th of August I attended a hand over meeting between the construction company (Wates) and Coventry Council – at this meeting it was made clear that the school would be operational on Wednesday, 3rd of September ready for the return of the pupils. Unfortunately, the construction team has failed to meet this deadline and the school will not be in a position to open on Wednesday, 3rd of September. As a result of the over run on construction, the school will now open on Thursday, 4th of September. This is a situation that, as a school, we have had no control over.
I understand that for many of you this will cause a real inconvenience and, as a school, the situation has been a very difficult one to deal with however, our sole responsibility is for the welfare and safe keeping of the children and on Wednesday, 3rd of September this simply would not have been possible.
As I write to you now, we currently have electricians, plasterers, plumbers, carpenters and a range of other workmen on site who are working around the clock to ensure that the project is completed in time for the children to return to school on Thursday.
We apologise for the inconvenience and look forward to welcoming the children back into school on Thursday, 4th September.
*Parents who have a child due to begin Reception next week will receive an email outlining the school’s plans regarding these meetings tomorrow morning.
**Playgroup, which is in a different building and unaffected by the building works will be open from Tuesday, 2nd September.
