Key Information

This week has been a very busy week at school with lots going on including: Y5/6 investigating a mock alien crash on the field and then doing some creative learning about this, Mr Lawrence led a very successful Maths workshop for middle school parents, twenty three of our pupils represented the school in two football matches which resulted in a 2-2 draw and a 2-1 defeat and finally, Miss Nickerson will take fifteen children to Mount Nod tomorrow to meet with the author Wendy Meddour.

May I also please remind you that tomorrow we will be holding a PTA film night – all children will need to be collected at the latest by 5:45pm.

I am aware that a number of parents have been asking about when the school photographs will be ready. Please rest assured that the office team have chased John Wright photography and they are currently being printed.

An important notice
As you may be aware there has been significant press coverage regarding safeguarding in Coventry schools. To address this Network 10 schools (of which our school is one) have been working together to ensure best practice and robust systems are in place. This approach is enabling all eleven schools to address safeguarding in the most effective way possible for our children.

I believe lines of communication at Park Hill are strong in relation to child protection issues with all staff explicitly clear about the need to report all issues of concern to the safeguarding officers (I am the lead and Mrs Bailey is also a designated member of staff). Staff are reminded on a weekly basis during the team briefing of protocols and systems and our Senior Leadership Team discuss child protection matters as part of a weekly set agenda.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Steve Taylor

Top Tips to Stop Bullying by Ellie T, Kelly C, Tyler G and Kai B

At Park Hill we really want to help stop bullying,

So here are some of our top tips:

  • Make sure if you are getting bulled you tell someone staright away – maybe your friend, your teacher or maybe your mum or dad.
  • Try not to take it in. Let it go in one ear and out the other.
  • Don’t fight back just tell someone.
  • Try to stop people from bullying others..
  • Tell friends and family.
  • Ignore the bully but if they keep doing it tell someone.
  • Don’t retaliate or you’re being a bully yourself and just as bad.

Thank you for reading our advice: Ellie, Kelly, Tyler and Kai

End of the week plus PTA message

Dear Parents/Carers,                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Last Friday we held a fundraising day in support of Children in Need – the event was organised and run by the school council and Upper School. The whole day was a real success and ultimately led to the school raising a total of £1263.13 for a great cause. In what are difficult financial times I would like to thank you for your generous support – I am extremely proud of all of our children because on days like these they show what a special group of people they are. Our children understand that there are people all over the world who are less fortunate than ourselves and importantly are keen to show they care.

This week we have been focussing on the national campaign against bullying and lots of events have taken place throughout the school. On Tuesday a whole school assembly was held that was open to all parents where we looked at why bullying occurs and how to deal with it. I have attached a PDF of the assembly on my blog (address at the bottom of the page) in case you would like to see what was covered.

I have been made aware that parking (particularly at drop off and collection times for Nursery) is again becoming an issue with cars blocking the drive and parking illegally. I understand that the vast majority of parents park in a responsible way but I’d like to encourage all parents to be mindful of where they are parking their cars and the impact it causes. If you do see a car parked illegally then please make a note of their registration number and pass it on to the office – in turn we will pass this information on to the PCSOs. I would appreciate this approach taking place as I am aware that there has been some discussion on the PTA facebook page around posting images of the offending cars – I think it best for all concerned if we hand the information to the correct people and allow them to address the issue. Thank you for your support in this matter.

Shirley Reynolds from the Road Safety Team has been in touch to inform school that they have now recruited a person for the site on the junction of Lower Eastern Green Lane and are currently carrying out the necessary checks. Typically this vetting process can take up to a month and when we have details of a start date I will let you know.

Lindsay Stringer (our new Chair of the PTA) has added a message to all parents – to view this please click on the PTA page at the top of this blog.

Have a great weekend,

Anti-bullying week at Park Hill

Welcome back after the weekend. As I am sure you aware, this week is national anti-bullying week. At Park Hill we are committed to eradicating bullying and over the course of the week will be running a number of key events aimed at raising the profile of the topic across the school. Tomorrow I will be leading assembly at 9:10am – this will be open to all parents and will focus on bullying and how we as a school community tackle it. Please come along if you can. For the rest of the week pupils will be focusing on this important topic in lessons, PSHE and in assembly.

On a separate note, the PTA are running a film night on the 29th of November and will be showing Monsters University. Further information will follow.

Finally, the Reception weekly information has been updated.

Thanks for your ongoing support,

The start of the week….

I hope you all had a good weekend. This week we have a number of events taking place in school including:

  • The start of cooking club – in the summer term we ran a very successful Indian restaurant which proved to be a massive success. This term Mrs Kerby will be assisted by Miss Nickerson in the running of a Italian themed event.
  • Children in Need day on Friday – this day is a non uniform day with all proceeds going to this worthwhile event.
  • Class LG’s assembly on Friday morning – consequently Rewards Assembly will now be moved to Thursday at 9:10am.

Next week we will be taking on the theme of anti-bullying. As mentioned previously, all our assemblies will be linked to this theme (Tuesday’s assembly is open to all parents who wish to attend and will begin at 9:10am) along with PSHE sessions in class and other core learning. The aim is to give the topic as much profile as possible so that we can work in partnership to help eradicate bullying from all schools.

The Reception weekly information has now been added.

Finally, I was on a course yesterday morning and so unable to be on the gate. The rest of this week I am in school and will be back on the gate to welcome all pupils in to school.

Thanks for your support,

Steve Taylor

Welcome Back

Welcome back to Park Hill after the half term holidays – I hope you all had a restful break and wee able to spend some quality family time together. We have a lot going on in the school this half term and over the next week we will be signposting some of these key events.

As you will you will now be aware, our crossing patrol has been relocated to outside the school gates. This now leaves the Park Hill/Lower Eastern Green lane junction vulnerable for our children crossing. As I mentioned in my previous letter and blog, this decision has been taken with no consultation of the school and I have highlighted our concerns in the strongest terms possible. Unfortunately this is an area that the school has no influence over.

Before half term we launched a school wide writing competition around the theme: Park Hill 2100. Miss Nickerson launched the event in an assembly with the whole school and a letter was sent out on the Friday. The competition is for the children to write creatively about the theme in any genre of their choice. They may interpret the theme as Park Hill in the year 2100AD and write a story about pupils in the future or they may interpret the them as Park Hill at 21:00 and write a poem about magical creatures that take over the school every evening at this time. The possibilities are endless and the main aim is to encourage our children to write with a real passion; every child who enters a piece of writing will have their work published in and around school in an anthology. The winners will have their work published to the school blog and will receive a £10 Watestones voucher.

Finally, the new reception information has been added to the blog.

Have a great week.
